Receiving DRM with Kenwood TS-450S (II)

For those who are interested in receiving the DRM using the TS450 radio by Kenwood, here is a pdf file with the details and circuit. Remember it's also valid for TS690, TS850 and TS950 radios wich has 4th IF output at 36.891KHz for use with optional DSP-100.
I am waiting for any feedback.

Amazing clarity. This happens to be my very 1st rig. Thank you for sharing the schematics. I will succeed.

Hi there. I do have a TS850s and I want to listen some DRM stations with it so I build a converter according to you're advice. Everything works fine I guess but I don't know how to turn on the DSP2 Connector from my TS850. You see I don't have the TS450 menu on this transceiver. I search all over the Internet and I didn't find anything. Can you give me a help please?

Thanks ! 73 de YO3IBW, Dan.

Hello Dan

Thanks for your comment. Well, I don't know how to do it in 850. Please refer to Service Manual and look for "Adjustment menu". Try to find any menu labeled "Receive DSP signal (RDC) is forced on"
And if you don't success there it must be a way to do it by hardware, bridging some pins in DSP3 or something similar, I can't tell you right now.

Please keep me informed about your experiments and send me any photo from the circuit.

All ok now. It's working just great!
To turn on the DSP2 connector you must press the F.Lock button when turning on the Power on the transceiver. Rotate the M-CH./VFO.CH knob at menu 5 and press the Up/Down button to se ON that function. Turn OFF and ON the transceiver and there it is, signal in DSP2.
Be aware that you will not hear any sound in the speaker when working on USB/LSB CW/FSK mode. In AM/FM you'll have the sound...
To come back at normal operation, follow the steps once again but turn OFF the menu 5 function.

Great vid! This is something I want to try with my TS-940. I have two of the four IFs available at the rear of the rig. I *think* one of them is 455Kc ... Gonna try to find a mixer and give this a try. Thanks for the encouragement! 73

Can I buy a board from you on the DRM interface for the Kenwood Radios, I know I can build it on a perf board but I like a clean board and noticed you had one layed out all ready
Thanks Keith N9QDS

Hi N9QDS
Unfortunately I can not find the design of the PCB in my computer, I
only find the component layout from a preliminary version that can
help you a lot if you decide to make it on perf board.
